You may be seeing the new (or maybe not so new) discovery with the benefits of vitamin c for your skin. If you are wondering if you should start to incorporate it into your daily skincare routine, the answer is yes. Vitamin C is one of the most powerful nutrients, especially for your skin. In this post, I’ll be going into and explaining why a new vitamin C skin care product will soon be your new best friend.

Benefits of Vitamin C for Your Skin

Fights Free Radicals

What’s a free radical? I didn’t know either, it’s basically oxygen-containing molecules with an uneven number of electrons that are created by environmental stressors – aka not a good thing. Since these electrons are meant to be in pairs to be even, so when they are uneven, they move through the body looking for an additional electron to pair with, causing damage to cells and proteins that can lead to disease and accelerate aging. Vitamin C helps search out these free radicals and donate an electron to them, which stabilizes the free radical so it can’t continue damaging the body.

Basically, Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant that can help protect the skin against the sun and other environmental stressors, and even help reverse their damage by seeking out free radicals and removing them.

The body is amazing, isn’t it?

Helps Stimulate Collagen Production

Vitamin C will also help your body produce more collagen which is the biggest protein in our body. Collagen helps the structure of your skin plus hair, nails, cartilage, ligaments, and more. When you hit your mid-twenties your body will start to decrease its collagen production, and then by the time you’re in your early thirties, you will start to notice the effects – wrinkles, dull skin, and slower hair growth. *Cue Vitamin C*  because vitamin C actually stimulates the body to start producing more collagen again, naturally.

It’s Moisturizing

Because collagen brings moisture to your skin, you’re already on the track for hydrated skin. But also vitamin C gives your skin a layer to help keep in the moisture.

Has Anti-Inflammatory properties

This helps with inflammatory skin conditions like acne or psoriasis.

What to Expect when you start using Vitamin C on your skin

  • Brighter and smoother skin
  • Fewer dark spots
  • More youthful skin
  • Lighter fine lines and wrinkles
  • Reducing the appearance of scars, spots, hyperpigmentation, and/or sun damage.

How? A lot of the ingredients are “active”, meaning that they are meant to do some heavy lifting when it comes to promoting skin change.

Let me introduce you to Beautycounter’s all Bright Vitamin C Serum

Most people’s concern about trying a new vitamin C serum is that other forms of Vitamin C (specifically Vitamin C in its most pure form) can be really unstable and potentially irritating to the skin leaving your skin red and irritated. And then the majority of the time people think the higher the concentration of Vitamin C, the better – but this isn’t always the case! The lighted levels of vitamin c are typically what causes the redness and irritation of the skin. Balancing the right, stable forms of Vitamin C, with the right percentage is KEY…and Beautycounter (of course) has done it.

They use two ultra-stable forms of vitamin C, Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate, and Bis-Glyceryl Ascorbate at a 10% concentration. These two ingredients serve as antioxidants that help reverse skin discoloration and boost collagen production in our skin.

They also added a few other key ingredients to help boost the effectiveness:

  • Myrciaria Dubia (Camu Camu) Fruit Extract: serves as a skin brightener
  • Curcuma Longa (Turmeric) Root Extract: An antioxidant that evens skin tone and works on fine lines and wrinkles.

How to Incorporate The All Bright C Serum in your Current Routine

This is a morning serum, you can use it in addition to other serums or to replace them. I personally use it in conjunction with my other serums. Typically, if you have your skincare routine as follows: cleanse-prep (toner/essence)-treat (serums)-protect (moisturizer). The All Bright C Serum would fit into or on top of that treat step. You can use this daily or alternate with your serum, depending on how your skin adapts.

How is this Vitamin C Serum Safer than Alternatives?

For starters, it’s formulated without ethoxylated ingredients (including PEGs) because of reproductive and developmental concerns. Not only do ingredients like these pose human health concerns, but they also create a toxic consideration for aquatic environments. There are no dyes in the formula – that bright yellow glow is from turmeric! Along with every product Beautycounter has, the All Bright C Serum has also been through rigorous and standardized testing (from raw materials to the finished product) to ensure there are no ingredients from the Never List.
