My favorite waterfront hotel in San Diego
Planning a trip to San Diego but not sure where to stay? Look no further, I’ve got you covered! San Diego Mission Bay Resort is the perfect resort in San Diego for every type of traveler from family fun to a secluded couples retreat to a fun girls getaway – this resort is calling your name.
The resort is a great central location to anywhere you’d want to visit in San Diego – the beaches, Sea World, Old Town, Downtown/Little Italy, Balboa Park yet is situated in its little slice of paradise right on Mission Bay. With inviting guest rooms, a waterfront pool, endless activities, with mouth-watering food options you will be sure to make this spot a favorite for locals or tourists.
You’ll find a tropical bayside paradise where there is something for everyone.
Located on Mission Bay in San Diego
It’s no wonder how San Diego Mission Bay Resort got its name – a resort in San Diego, located on Mission Bay – it’s breezy, adventurous, and supports the active beach lifestyle that San Diego embodies. Mission Bay is a man-made saltwater bay located south of Pacific Beach and right off highway 5.
What makes this resort unique
The resort is laid out surrounded by guest rooms overlooking the water with the center of the resort being the lobby, restaurants, and pool. There are community fire pits and also fire pits for guest rooms, complete with s’mores nights.
If you’re looking to relax, rejuvenate, and renew – look to the onsite spa, Spa Brezza, where they offer countless massages, facials, and have the only Himalayan salt table in San Diego.
The resort is laid out around their waterfront pool, which offers a unique shape that gives optimal room for lots of chairs. This was one of the hotels where you didn’t have to get there super early to “reserve” a lounge chair. There’s also a big pool but a kiddie pool so the main pool isn’t filled with kiddies at all times.
This allows you to enjoy both the beach and the pool. There are plenty of loungers available and the poolside restaurant provides all the refreshments you could possibly want. This pool is shallow and filled with brightly colored balls, creating a welcoming environment for the smallest members of the family. Parents can relax on the surrounding loungers or join children in the pool.
In addition to pools, there’s beach access right on the resort complete with an onsite marina. Since most attractions here revolve around the water, there’s a relaxed, chill atmosphere. From jet skiing, boat rentals, sailboats to stand-up paddle-boarding, there are a lot of water sports to try your hand at right in front of the hotel. Not to mention skateboards, bikes, and scurries. You’ll rent from the onsite Action Sports Rentals.
Bring the whole family along, the resort is so dog friendly! I personally really like this hotel for dogs because of the grassy areas, and Mission Bay parks on both sides of the hotel. Plus your pup gets a welcome with their name on a special welcome board for all furry family members in the breezeway.

Guest Rooms at Mission Bay Resort
Not only are they new and updated, but they’re also comfortable and aesthetically pleasing. Not to mention, all rooms have balconies or patios. They’re the perfect place to head back to after a long day of water sports, chilling by the pool, and running around San Diego. The rooms give you a chilled-out, beachy atmosphere to really ensure that beach life is for everyone staying.
Dining Options at the San Diego Mission Bay Resort
Solrisa
Finding it difficult to leave the pool come lunchtime? I know the feeling – Solrisa is the perfect place to grab some poolside chips and guac, tacos, and a spicy margarita to go along with it.
Mission Joe
Need some caffeine to start your morning? Start with a coffee, latte, or cappuccino from Mission Joe. You can order breakfast staples like bagels, freshly made pastries, and breakfast sandwiches to get your day started.
Plaza Del Sol
This cute little patio has both indoor and outdoor options with firepits to keep warm on cool San Diego nights! With some of the most unique cocktails, endless beer options, and tapas to share it’s the perfect place to hang out before dinner. Plaza Del Sol even has Sol Sessions where they have live music from local artists.
Covewood
Wine, craft cocktails, delicious food, and a front-row seat to some of the best sunsets? Count me in. If you’re looking for a more intimate dining experience then Covewood is what you want. With a menu with something for everyone (steak, salmon, salads, plus mac n cheese) you’ll be sure to be coming here multiple times during your stay.
Covewood also serves brunch every day so you can get your french toast and eggs benedict every day of the week.
