As June marks the official start to summer – your weekends may be full of beach days, pool parties, BBQs, travel, road trips, and everything else you’ve been waiting for over a year to do. I know the majority of my summer weekends will be full of weddings from my friends who’ve had to postpone their weddings due to COVID and event restrictions. But if you’re looking for something to fill up your free time this weekend (or the coming weekends) here are my top 5 suggestions:
How to Spend Your Weekend
Watch Cruella on Disney+
If you’ve seen any version of the many 101 Dalmatians, then you should 100% watch this! I never knew there was such a backstory on Cruella. It’s definitely a must-see for every age. Don’t forget to make black and white cookies, or grab some Oreos, and wear your most fashionable outfit in the spirit.
Take a Staycation
Most people haven’t ventured out too far in over a year! This is why a last-minute staycation is a perfect option. This is the perfect excuse to explore your own city like a local, try out a new restaurant you’ve been eyeing, or check out a touristy spot. Pretend you’re on a vacation without the hassle or stress of travel.
Do Some Summer Cleaning
Sure, you may have done spring cleaning, but cleaning out and freshening up your home is so important every season! I always start with reorganizing my closet, getting rid of clothes I know I have no intention to wear (I even started my own Poshmark account, check it out here), deep clean bathrooms, throw away old food in the pantry/freezer, and finally clean out that damn junk drawer (don’t act like you don’t have one). Don’t forget it’s the perfect time to update your decor for the season – is HomeGoods calling your name? Trade darker home accents with more colorful accessories, adding bright and colorful art to the walls, or even minor changes that freshen up/brighten your home like fresh flowers or orange essential oil.
Have a DIY Spa Day
These are always my favorite types of days! First things first, create the perfect relaxation ambiance. Dim the lights, play a “spa music” playlist on Spotify, light a lavender/eucalyptus candle, and put on a cozy robe. Throw a bath bomb in the tub, put on a face mask (like my favorite this Beautycounter charcoal mask), and even a deep conditioning hair mask. Don’t forget a good book or some trashy magazines! Finish off your spa day with a glass of wine or a cup of tea.
Make a Delicious Summer Meal
If you’re anything like me (or Julia Child) the best way to celebrate anything is to eat! You could do a traditional hamburger/hot dog meal with potato salad + watermelon, a fancy/fresh lemony pasta, fish tacos, burrata, and prosciutto pesto salad, make your own pizza – just to name a few! Don’t forget dessert, perhaps channeling your inner child with s’mores or a fan favorite, ice cream (mint chip for me, please!) No matter what you choose a DIY meal is the best way to celebrate the weekend + the start of summer.
What are some other fun options to do this weekend? I’m always looking for new ideas!
